1. Open up Outlook > File > Options > Mail > Under Conversation Clean upward, Uncheck When a reply modifies a bulletin, don't move the original > Restart Outlook (it is is already unchecked, check it Restart Outlook, Uncheck information technology and Restart Outlook)
2. If above doesn't work, uncheck all options nether Conversation Make clean Up
3. Account Settings > Open up your account > More than settings > Under Advanced tab, put INBOX in Root Folder Path. (If your all folders disappear, but remove INBOX from here)

This is a known issue with IMAP accounts. The change (read state) needs to sync with the server before you tin can move information technology, which simply takes a split second, but outlook keeps a hold on the message until you switch letters.

Diane, I wish switching messages were the solution. but it only works sometimes on some servers. It'due south just a nuisance to me, but it makes me hesitate to recommend Outlook and IMAP to my clients, who usually have less tolerance for unusability than I do.

We use Google for our mail hosting. None of the workarounds I've seen anywhere take solved this problem.

I accept done number 3 and now have lost a file with all my candy mail in it and cant go information technology back what practice i do

Information technology seems, if you change the previous messages in the chain, the outlook will not permit you send the email.
its a really skillful feature that you tin trust an outlook electronic mail that no 1 inverse the content on forwarding/replying email .

Your suggestion really does not provide a solution - I was so frustrated with it that I performed an online repair of Office 2016 which involved uninstalling and reinstalling the awarding - that solved it - it'due south behaving now.
